2016 Predictions Outcome

2016 Predictions Outcome

Greetings fellow naval gamers! Given that we are about to say a (perhaps not so fond) farewell to 2016, it’s now time for me to go back to the beginning of the year and review the predictions I made for the naval gaming hobby. Just like with my 2015 predictions, I’m going to be scoring myself on the following scale:

  • Prediction Completely Accurate: 2 Points
  • Prediction Partially Accurate: 1 Point
  • Prediction was WRONG!: 0 Points

I made 6  predictions for 2016, which means I could earn a maximum of 12 points. As you may recall, my score for 2015 was…less than stellar. I got only 5 points, meaning I was somewhat less accurate that a coin toss! Did I do any better for 2016? Lets find out.

Adepticon Preps Vol 2: FSA List Building

Adepticon Preps Vol 2: FSA List Building

As I mentioned in my last post, I’m starting the full-court presadepticons on my Adepticon preps. This time around, I’m looking at lists for my Firestrom Armada (FSA) Terrans. Per what I know of the format so far, I will definitely need two 900 point lists for the main 3-game event on Saturday, with a couple of 800 point lists ready in case I somehow make it into the second round on Sunday. For this post, I’m going to present a few 900 point lists I’ve been toying with.

Now, I’ve gotten a little experience over the past year on what does and does not work with the Terrans, so I’ll be referencing those thoughts going forward here. I’m also keeping in mind some of the feedback I’ve gotten both on the MBS and on the Spartan forums, for which I am very grateful! So, these lists are more of a starting point than a finished product. Continue reading

Adepticon 2017 Preps Vol 1: Making a List, Checking it Twice

2016 is almost over, and my gaming thoughts more and more turn to Adepticon, which is a bare three months away as of this writing! Shockingly, I’m not quite ready to go at the moment. There is some preparation I still have to do!

(DW) Terrain Project

(DW) Terrain Project

Greetings! As I posted a while back, I recently got some terrain for Dystopian Wars; their Industrial Complex Set, and a set of  “coastal rocks” which consists of a series of small islands and shoals. I’ve managed to get them all painted up, so lets take a look!

FSA: Thoughts from a (Terrible) Terran Player

FSA: Thoughts from a (Terrible) Terran Player

Recently I’ve been reflecting on my experiences over the last year playing my Terran fleet for Firestorm Armada (FSA). In all, I played about a dozen games with my Terrans in 2016, making FSA my most-played game from the last year. However, my success with the faction has not been too great; I lost 10 of those 12 games! Far from being discouraged by this fact, I’m actually inspired to dig into the reasons for my struggles and find ways to do better in 2017. To paraphrase Edison, I haven’t failed 10 times, I’ve only found 10 ways that don’t work!

DW Fleet Action Musings

DW Fleet Action Musings

Greetings!

The Donnerfaust support cruisers attempt to interject themselves between the FSA and the Sturmbringer in a brave, but ultimately futile, gesture.

The Donnerfaust support cruisers attempt to interject themselves between the FSA and the Sturmbringer in a brave, but ultimately futile, gesture.

Last weekend I had the chance to play a full game of Dystopian Wars Fleet Action (DWFA) against CDR-G. For those that may not be familiar, Fleet Action is the DW cousin of Firestorm Taskforce, both by Spartan Games. They are intended to be “fast-play” editions of Dystopian Wars and Firestorm Aramda, respectively. This was the first “full speed” game of DWFA that I have been able to play, and it was also the first time I’ve gotten a chance to play since discussing both DWFA and Taskforce on the podcast a couple of episodes back. So, having spent some more time with the game, is it “good”? Is it any faster than DW? Does it work as a fleet action version of DW (ie, DW with more models)? I’ll get to all that, but first I want to run you through how our game went and give you a few observations. Onward! Continue reading
