Spartan recently ran a promotion to give away free terrain for DW for orders over 50 pounds, and it sounded too good to pass up! Since I have a lot of ships already, I’ve been turning my attention to the area of terrain. My shipment just arrived, so lets take a look and see what we get.

Greetings! Last weekend I had the opportunity to play what amounted to my first “full-speed” game of Star Trek Attack Wing (STAW). By that I mean I got to play with all the rules against an opponent (MBS member Creon) who was also an experienced gamer. I have to say, I really enjoyed it, and it gave me a lot to think about. So, I thought I might share a few of my thoughts with all of you here on the blog.
Not long after I proposed this project, I received suggestions on how to handle torpedoes. The thrust of these suggestions was that the fashion in which DW handles torpedoes is somewhat unsatisfactory, due to them being “direct fire” weapons, and not giving a good feel for seeing the deadly “fish” streak across the table to hit your opponent’s ships. In principle, I agree with this sentiment, so it’s worth examining in some detail.
In the end, what has since come to be known in the centuries since as the First Armus War ended not with a decisive victory for either side, but with a stalemate that ground the conflict to a halt. Major fleet engagements were relatively rare, with the conflict being marked by many smaller skirmishes between the Imperial Navy and the Chaos invaders. The Chaos forces that initiated the conflict were more successful during this grinding war of attrition, enabling them to gain and expand a foot-hold in the sub sector. Nevertheless, the stalwart Imperial defenders were able to make those gains so costly that the Chaos invasion was contained after the Fall of Delphi in 787M41, limiting the Archenemy to full control of only two systems in the sub-sector. The result was an uneasy and undeclared cease-fire as both sides entered a rebuilding phase. Fortunately for the Imperium, the rumors of Xenos activity that had flooded into the Sub-Sector Imperial Command on Forge World Armus turned out to be mostly false. Those that were not were successfully neutralized early and with little cost. This meant that the Imperials were able to avoid over-extension from fighting on multiple fronts. It also meant that trade was able to continue relatively unaffectedly, minimizing the depredations experienced by the Imperial citizenry and thus limiting the spread of popular unrest. Greetings! This post is intended to be the first shot across the bow for a project I’ve had simmering for some time now in the back of my head. As you may have guessed from the title, the basic idea is to come up with a conversion or mod for Dystopian Wars (DW) to create a version of that game that uses historical miniatures.
Greetings! I recently participated in the first Firestorm Armada Grand Tournament (GT) at the NOVA Open, which was organized by Michael (Ryjak on the forum) and William.
