OK fellow naval wargamers, the end of the year is nigh upon us. Let's see what you got accomplished in 2015!
Before December 31st, post a few "group shots" in this thread of all the naval wargaming miniatures you completed this year. No matter if you painted a single model or an entire fleet, we want to see your work! You can mash them all together in one big group, naval ships with space ships, or break them up into fleets or genres--whatever works best for you. Feel free to tell us a little bit about what you painted. Also, post a shot of the one model (or squadron of models) that you're most proud of that you completed this year and tell us why it's your favorite. And, let us know what your painting resolutions are for 2016!
Nothing to win here except bragging rights and the envy of your fellow wargamers. I know we have a talented pool of painters here at MBS, so let's see what you've done!
-
Can we post Planetfall stuff?
-
Can we post Planetfall stuff?
Certainly! As an outgrowth of Firestorm Armada, I think Planetfall models can be included. I expect we'll be seeing a few more pics of Herr Hochmeister as well, yes?
-
Oh yes!
-
No no no no no... Don't remind me of how much of a slacker I've been! ;D
Sadly I've only painted the two squads this year :/

Of course I did paint like 2500 points of Black Templars... :D Including this little gem:

You know, because it is a gunship and all so that counts right... :D

Liking the looks of that Directorate battleship and escorts a lot.
-
+1 on the Directorate battleship, looks great. The Directorate is my next Firestorm fleet, I already have the models from the Overseers boxed set, will start painting them next year.
So, per the original instructions...what's your favorite of what you've painted? And any painting resolutions you want to share for 2016?
-
I primed a few dozen in 2015.
I will paint a few dozen in 2016.
I cannot commit to more for fear of the unknown.
-
That Directorate color choice is really great.
Nice work.
-
I went back and looked at the dates on my pics, and realized that I've actually done a fair amount of painting this past year.
I did the Planets tutorial:
I painted my Aquan Dread:
I did a LOT of SRS tokens!
I finished up my Oroshan fleet, including another squadron of frigates not shown here.
I painted all of my Planetfall.......

Plus some other stuff I apparently never took pics of......
And I started on my Kedorians.
And last but not least, I painted up the Hochmeister!

Nice! I got a fair bit painted myself this year, though I will wait until I'm not posting from my phone to put all the pics up ;).
-
oops sorry Landlubber, I missed the extra bits there. First thanks for the nice comments guys. I don't have a lot to choose from, but I'm definitely happy with how the Judgement came out! As for resolutions... I'd like to get my RotO stuff painted and I have the other 3 escorts to finish still. I also have my Oroshan cruisers and a squad of Directorate heavy cruisers to paint... Oh and all of my planetfall stuff... Plus more Templars... Oh boy and some BFG I've been sitting on for years. I don't know.. :D I guess my resolution will be to finish my Directorate stuff though, I have quite a bit built up and it's a little time consuming so yeah. I'd like to go back and redo my finished stuff with the fleet marking, I've decided the winged shield will be the symbol for my Directorate company and it feels like a better fit then the different squadron markings I was doing before.
-
Thanks Andrew!
Stephan, awesome stuff...favorite model? Resolutions for next year?
-
What?!? You expect an engineer to actually read ALL the instructions?
My favorite was originally the Aquan Leviathan, but I'm really liking how the Hochmeister turned out. Resolution for 2016 is to finish up my existing French and CoA models for DW and finish my Kedorians for Firestorm.
-
It's funny...thanks to my job, having to move, and having kids, if you'd asked me how much I painted in 2015, I would have told you, "Not a lot." However, once I started looking back at it, I'm surprised by how much I actually accomplished!
Anyway, here we go:
New Prussians for DW:

A Dindrenzi Test Scheme:

New Terrans for FSA:

DW Objective Markers:

1:1800 WWII Warships:

A 1/350 Scale model of the USS SCRANTON as a presentation gift:
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/4/5/702221_sm-.JPG) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/702221-.html)
And last, but not least, my UNSC and Covenant test models:
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/11/15/757614_sm-.jpeg) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/757614-.html)
Overall, I would have to say that my favorite of the bunch has to be the Sturmbinger sub I painted for DW:
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/25/681733_sm-Dystopian%20Wars%2C%20Prussians%2C%20Spartan%20Games.JPG) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/681733-Dystopian%20Wars%2C%20Prussians%2C%20Spartan%20Games.html)
Although, the Terran Dreadnought I painted is a close second ;).
For next year, I'm vowing to finish up the box sets I've got for DW, Planetfall, and Halo, and clear out the impressive number of DW blisters I've got 😀
-
That sub looks awesome Andy, good job. Heh, I guess I should be more specific. Both subs look great, but that DW Prussian is fantastic!
-
Thanks! I spent a little extra time with that one, and I think it shows. Sorry I forgot to comment earlier, but your Directorate stuff is quite nice, and you did a great job on that Stormraven (even if it is kind of a goofy looking model ;)).
-
I agree Andy, great work on both subs! How does the Prussian sub do for you in-game?
-
I agree Andy, great work on both subs! How does the Prussian sub do for you in-game?
You should ask Last Rites; he's been on the receiving end of the thing's Speerschleuders on more than one occasion ;D.
Seriously though, not bad. I think it is a little hamstrung by not having any weapons it can fire from a submerged condition, but it is a solid model that has done well for me so far. Having reinforced bulkheads and rugged construction help with that.
-
Good looking ships Ruck. Really like that sub. The model itself is a great design, you did it justice.
-
Well, nothing like waiting until the last minute, right? :D I had hoped to get a few more ships painted by the deadline, but holiday travel and a really bad cold have conspired to dash those plans.
So here is what I painted in 2015:
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3867_zps5j42skvs.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3867_zps5j42skvs.jpg.html)
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3868_zpsmgbmgagy.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3868_zpsmgbmgagy.jpg.html)
For some reason I thought I'd painted more this year, but I guess not. Pretty good mix of space and ocean naval ships. The majority of the models I painted this year were for Spartan's new Halo: Fleet Battles.
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3871_zpst2cijn8k.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3871_zpst2cijn8k.jpg.html)
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3872_zpswxjdchkk.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3872_zpswxjdchkk.jpg.html)
For Dystopian Wars, I painted mostly Republique of France ships:
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3874_zpsf13uau01.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3874_zpsf13uau01.jpg.html)
And then there were a few one-offs, painted for hobby competitions or other reasons. Here is a Galacteer Class-IV starship from the War Rocket! game (Hydra Miniatures) that I painted for a local hobby challenge:
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3870_zpscdccsfci.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3870_zpscdccsfci.jpg.html)
And of course The Dragon and a Victoria-class monitor for the Chinese Federation and the Royal Australians (Dystopian Wars), respectively:
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3873_zpsayoos90k.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3873_zpsayoos90k.jpg.html)
My favorite model completed in 2015 is the French Couronne-class assault carrier for Dystopian Wars. I put a LOT of work into this model, from repositioning the aircraft on the deck to weathering the deck to painting the French emblem on the superstructure:
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3875_zpszlcssamx.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3875_zpszlcssamx.jpg.html)
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3876_zpsrk0zgwjq.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3876_zpsrk0zgwjq.jpg.html)
(http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr186/landlubber2011/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3878_zpsg6vcpmtz.jpg) (http://s482.photobucket.com/user/landlubber2011/media/Tabletop%20Wargaming/Miscellaneous/IMG_3878_zpsg6vcpmtz.jpg.html)
What's notably missing from this pictures is anything for the Federated States of America (Dystopian Wars) or the Rense System Navy (Firestorm Armada). Need to get cracking on both.
For 2016, my painting goals are to 1) pick a scheme and paint at least HALF of my FSA models; 2) paint my ENTIRE RSN fleet (kind of a no-brainer, since these need to be painted before Adepticon!); and 3) paint up my remaining Fortune Hunters and Ancients of Atalan miniatures for Deep Wars. Those three items alone will make for a busy painting year...anything else will be gravy.
Thanks for looking!
