About 6 years ago I found a good set of free age of sail rules, but I couldn't get minis for them at the time, so I lost them. Does anyone know of some good age of sail rules, with detailed movement and weather, my google-fu is letting me down?

The Sails of Glory rules are pretty good, and can be had for free:

The only downside is that the game is fairly component-heavy, requiring all kinds of tokens, cards, etc.

Thanks, I'm having a look through the rules. It looks like a good game but I was hoping for something a little more simulator than game.

Well, YMMV, but I've always found Sail of Glory to be quite crunchy as a game. Once you add in all the advanced rules, I think it really does a good job of capturing age of sail combat and forcing players to make the same kinds of tactical decisions the commander of a real sailing warship had to face.

Fair enough, I haven't had a chance to read through the rules thoroughly yet. I actually found out a friend of a friend has the starter pack, so I'm hoping to get a chance at playing sails of glory over the Christmas break.

Awesome! You will have to let us know how you like it. Greg and I are reviewing the game in the next episode of the MBS podcast (should be posted tomorrow!).
