Didn't care for the new series, but I was religious for the original as a kid.

Very sad.  Who didn't want to be Apollo?

New series wasn't perfect, but it was frequently the best sci fi that's been done.

Even as an 11 yr old, I recall how quickly the old series became tedious and disappointing. I still collected a bajillion Lucky Charms boxtops to get my own cardboard Viper Cockpit, but I'd constantly roll my eyes at the recycled fight footage.

Hatch's greatness wasn't in original Apollo per se. It was in coming around to the new show, agreeing to play Tom Zarek, and making that character one of the most complex and compelling in those seasons. Sort of a realistic political contrast to Baltar's buffoonery.
