Title: DW Australian WIP Blog

Overall, I'm using a basic grey scheme (similar to my Prussians), but with a band of blue-green along the waterline to break up the profile of the ship somewhat. To play around some, I decided to more heavily weather this fleet than my others, based on the fluff in the Australian fleet book that says Australian ships are "hard wearing." This ship was an experiment with some of GW's new technical paints, Typhus Corrosion and Ryza rust. I think the effect came out OK, though I get the feeling it will be better suited to larger models:

I kind of like the effect, so I am leaning towards carrying it over to the rest of the fleet. Here is one final shot in more normal light on a water mat, to give a better feel for what the scheme might look like on an actual table:

Vomit Brown/Tau Light Ochre, washed with Devlan Mud/Agrax Earthshade.

Also like the weathering/ soot on the stacks, that Tamiya or a wash?

Edit: What is everyone's opinion on the little bit "extra" resin at the bottom of the ships? Sand or no sand?

So far, I've just got the first overbrushing of medium grey laid down. Next step will be highlights using lighter grey and finally white.

I was only able to do the rest of the gunships and the two submarine tenders as far as the blue goes, but I think they came out pretty well:

I finished getting the blue-green put on the hulls, and the wood decking done (always one of the most tedious parts!)

From here the next step will be to paint all the metallic bits, do the weathering, and then the final touch-ups. This will probably be the last update for a week or so, though, as I'm about to hit the road to go visit family in Indiana.

Well, I'm more in the "no sand" camp, especially for a secondary fleet like this. It wouldn't be particularly hard, given the flat bottom location of the extra resin. However, I find this little bit of extra is only really noticeable in close-up photos. In person, I have to squint to see it!
