Holy. Freakin'. Cow.

(No Facebook account needed to view the pics; they're in the column on the right, scroll down a bit.)
Must have one of these as soon as it comes out.

Bad Bad Spartangames. You should not make things like that to ieze my money.

Well said, well said. Part of me hopes they release it soon, part of me hopes they'll wait a bit so I can devise a paint scheme worthy of such a beast.
Can't wait to see if someone puts wings on one of these models...I think there may be some dragons from Reaper minis that have wings that might be the right size.
-
Oriental dragons dont typically have wings, it would look a little silly imo with them. Speaking of silly base coat white and cover it in white fur, call it the Falkor.
-
There be dragons here...
Right before shipping off one of our players joined the Chinese cause. I'm sure when he returns from the east he'll be riding on this ::)

Temeraire (http://www.amazon.com/His-Majestys-Dragon-Temeraire-Book/dp/0345481283/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403717416&sr=8-1&keywords=His+Majesty%27s+Dragon) has wings, and he's a Celestial, native to China. :D

Update from Delboy over on the Spartan Games forum:
"Its not a Dreadnought.
Its a Large Surface Skimming Armoured Robot.
I think Neil made a mistake in his eagerness to post the picky [......Chris only finished it that day and Neil couldn't wait to share it!....]
The model has Rocket Batteries, a nasty flamethrower for a mouth and 'claws of doom!' for ripping things apart!!
At present we have it at around 150pts and so its a good match up vs. Metzgers and Ikas.
This model is one of many new things on the way for the Chinese Federation!...... folding Mobile Airfields, Fortified Bombards, Temple Dogs, etc..... Watch this space
Cheers
d"
So that answers a few questions, and hopefully will tone down the howlers on the SG forum about the Chinese having two dreadnaughts.

Awesome looking model. A mechanical flying dragon that spits fire is Steampunk with a capital S! This thing is destined to be one of the signature models of the range IMO, up there with the Imperium sky fortress and the Magenta. Thanks for re-posting this!

People actually complained about that?! ???

Agreed, it has the potential to be iconic. Some people have complained that it looks out of place in the DW world, but I disagree. Compared to the other robots being used (I think only the Ika and Metzger are "large" robots; the John Henry and the Freedom are medium and small, respectively), it actually fits in quite well with the faction. Dragons are an integral part of Chinese culture, but the John Henry, Freedom, and Ika really don't have much to do with their respective factions' history or mythology, either in the DW world or the real world. At least the Metzger brings to mind armored Teutonic knights of medieval times.
Plus, the photography potential here is flat out cool...can't wait to see pics of this thing assaulting a (preferrably Prussian :D) battleship or battlecruiser!
Yeah, some people were whining when they thought it was a dreadnaught. I guess that's *slightly* understandable, as no other faction has two choices for dreadnaughts, but then Delboy clarified that it is a large skimmer. I'm also really happy to hear that there are more Chinese models on the way...played a hard fought game with them against my local Prussian opponent, and was able to get the dreadnaught into the fray for the first time. There were corrosion tokens and raging fire markers all over the place thanks to those flamethrowers.
-
I respectfully disagree on the John Henry's. They feel pretty American to me. Very Iron Giant. Just wish the stats were a little better for 2.0. Yes it needed a change, but still allowing it to be a boarding threat would have been nice. Haven't taken a hard look at the other bots but I'm thinking they still pack a hell of a punch. Robots ripping hulls apart is just way way way to cool. This new Dragon will be sure to do that!
-
Yeah, I can see that.
So far, I'm mostly happy with the John Henry's new stats. I never really used them for boarding anyway. I really like that they now have 360 movement. And their guns and rockets didn't get downgraded too terribly.
As stated before, my biggest issue with robots in 2.0 is the decision to relegate the Freedom-class to escort-only. Those things were little killers. But, with the advent of 360-degree bombs, maybe my Avions can pick up the slack.

The new dragon model may be just the piece which will convince me to start collecting some Chinese ships. I may already have a color scheme picked out for the fleet:

Well, I can tell you from experience that they are a nuanced fleet to field. I was so used to "point and shoot" with my FSA; the Chinese have a lot of special MARs to keep up with, and if you don't pay attention to them you end up not using the ships to their fullest potential.
-
So, Landlubber, are you adding Chinese models as allies to your FSA fleet? Is it possible you could put together an "all-robot" force? I can nearly imagine that flying Chinese dragon charging into battle flanked by dozens of John Henry machines. :)
-
Actually, when I run my Chinese, I usually run French air support with them. I don't think you can run Chinese and FSA together--FSA is Grand Coalition, and the Chinese are Imperial Bond. But yes, the thought of one of these flying into battle flanked by John Henry robots is tantalizing...
-
Ouch, bet the KOB are none to please with French air support ???
Under 2.0 I don't think that minor nations can officially bring major nation support. As they do t have the political sway to retask national resources. Was looking into getting so e KOB subs for my Aussies and saw that rule. Still it can be fun for friendlies or scenarios, as long as folks agree on it.

Ah, didn't know that. Don't have the 2.0 rules yet, my Shadowhunter boxed set isn't in yet.
Hmmmm...guess I'll just have to use the Chinese bombard flyers, and the dragon when it comes out!
-
That is funky neat. Can't wait to toast one with my Euclid. Dragon on an accelerated particle stick.
-
To threaten the dragon is to threaten the Emperor himself. I suggest you tread lightly. :P

It's not easy to wrap my armchair historian's mind around this one, especially since the Chinese and Japanese went to war in our version of the late 19th century.
An alliance between the two major Asian nations seems to limit the possibilities for gaming battles in the region. Sure, you can have the Russians fighting the Chinese over Mongolia, maybe... the Russo-Sino War?
Well, I guess I have every excuse to acquire a flying robot dragon to add to my Imperial Japanese forces!
I also just realized the Free Chilean Republic is also a close ally of the Blazing Sun! My memories of reading about the eventual capture of the Huascar by the Chileans are stoked at the thought of putting together a Chilean navy for DW.
-
Is Spartan eventually going to make models for the Chileans? I have to admit, fleets from that part of the globe don't interest me very much. I love history, but the history of South America has never really caught my attention.
-
I don't see why we don't just use some KoB models to represent the Chileans. It was not uncommon for countries to purchase warships built in the famous British shipyards, like the first pre-dreadnought ships in the Japanese navy. And that would also provide the opportunity to have some KoB ship models on the Imperial Bond side of things. Until Spartan Games releases some South American designs, I'm going to incorporate some KoB ships into my Blazing Sun/Chinese/Chilean allied fleet.
