Hey guys! So a year ago not long after FS:A 2.0 was released, I was really into Terran Cruisers and the hardpoint upgrades in the new fleet list. I ended up writing a little article about it and submitting it to a fan-led FS:A magazine that....never happened, I guess. I thought I would put it up here for you guys to consider!
Mostly, for me, this was just a thought experiment about ship development and weapons R&D in the Alliance. Still, I hope you enjoy reading it, and feel free to leave any comments below.

Great article! I've added it to the Firestorm Armada section on the Downloads page:

Hey, thanks! And I feel very flattered by the blog post, too!
Yeah, I loved thinking this through. The Terran Alliance over the years have had so many different cruiser models, and the detail and design of those models showed design improvements that I think suggest in-universe design features, as well.
Happy to discuss if anyone has any ideas or feedback!

The Terrans have a lot of options for their cruisers.
Without knowing any background of the models themselves or what they were called in the past I always designate them this way in my own games: Hermes has +2 MV (because Hermes was quick), Sentinel has +1 Shield (a sentinel seems like a protector), Teuton has +1 HP (knightly army).
The other upgrades always seemed like fun extras to these three differences.
I really like the background that you wrote for the various types though. It's really a neat idea and I like when people think of neat background for Firestorm which is frustratingly lacking of background.

I definitely agree, Quick - the models themselves and their names are very suggestive of the appropriate upgrades for them!
I would love to see more Firestorm background, although I have to say that with a caveat - I am not really feeling the Planetfall stuff, but I loved all the background in the FS:A fleet guide books that came out!
