I just checked and Geek Nation Tours has their Adepticon 2016 tour up. I submitted a booking request and asked if they offer any group rates in case we've got enough folks in Colorado interested in going. I'll let you know what I find out.
-
I just heard back from GNT and they're already about half full. I should get a call from them soon to work out cost, at which point I'll pass it along here.
-
Alright! I've gotten the proper clearances from CINC-HOUSE, so I am in for the Adepticon GNT. If we can get a few of us all going, we will have to have a MBS mini-Con one of the days we are there. Not to mention, we can spread the Good Word about naval gaming 8).
-
Awesome! Sounds like Greg has obtained similar clearance!

It is true, I have. Put down my deposit today.
We need to get some MBS buttons or something. With 5 of us going, I'm not sure that's enough to have T-shirts made, but buttons might be doable.
And Stephan just told me that everything has to be painted for Adepticon...oh man, I've got a LOT of work to do......
-
everything has to be painted for Adepticon
Crap... i better get busy too!

Yeah. I'm thinking we need to have some Adepticon prep painting parties this winter.
-
So, are we going to throw down a challenge to the Firebase Delta crew? Us vs them in Firestorm.
-
I'll defer to Ruckdog on this, since he is MBS-Actual. :D
-
That could be an epic idea... we'd likely have to carve out some late time for it.
-
I'm thinking Iron Man Firestorm. Take a shot of that 141 proof Navy Strength Gin for every ship lost.

If we're doing that, I need to get some ships with shields, or I'll be blitzed before turn 1 is over.
-
I'll supply the Gin 8).
Seriously though, I would be up for a challenge to another group. I also think it would be fun to just have a few games amongst all of us. The evenings are a prime time for these sorts of things to happen, since there is a lot of open gaming space and there is not a lot of scheduled events going on (seminars, tournament events, etc). We will just have to see once the official schedule goes up!
This is going to be epic...
-
Agreed. But it sounds like we're going to have some evening activities with the GNT crew, so hopefully we'll also have time to game. However...Ruckdog, you and I need to play some one-on-one DW. My FSA versus your Prussians, like old times.
How would we go about challenging the Firebase Delta guys? Should we make it a Kurak vs Zenian thing?
-

There is always time to game, if the halls stay open! 3-2-1 rule! 3 hours sleep, 2 meals, 1 shower, every day.
I wouldn't do Kurakvs Zenian since we're all likely all over the place...unless we want to "mix teams" to rep our Alliances :-)

From experience, Teras is always careful to leave some white space in the evenings for stuff like this. And, it doesn't have to be in the evening! We might be able to find time during the day to do our get together as well. As for a PE/FSA match, you're on!
With regards to the Firebase Delta game, I'm not too hung up on how it's organized. Zenith Vs Kurak seems fine to me ;).
-
The official event list should be coming out soon. Looks like we'll have a 1000pt, 4-round Firestorm tourney. According to the Michigan GT out brief, the same guys also ran a narrative event and they're thinking about something for Planetfall.
Those of us going are gonna need help from the rest of the gang to get our fleet lists ready. So, bring your biggest, baddest lists to the table. Based on last year's results, Works Raptor may be the fleet to beat.
DW doesn't seem to have much of a local following in the Chicago area, but maybe we'll get lucky and see an event, but it doesn't sound hopeful.
I'll continue to post here as I hear more and encourage others to do likewise.
-
Yeah, I heard that in the last podcast as well. I've never faced Works Raptor, but I hear they're a nasty fleet...I've even heard rumors that they're a "broken" fleet.
Is it safe to assume that the Firestorm tourney will take place in a single day? Agreed on trying our fleets against each other.
Also...and this means more probably to me and Forrest than anyone else...it looks like Anti-Matter Games will be present at Adepticon. These are the guys who make the Deep Wars game. Eric Louchard, who runs the company, said he'll get a game in with me if he can be there, which is just freakin' AWESOME. So I'm bringing my Fortune Hunters just in case. 8)
-
Looks like we're going to get a Planetfall event on Friday!
-
Watch out for those Works Raptor destroyers. Picked up a box of them. If they're half as deadly as they are awesome looking, you're toast.

Thanks! Sounds like you have your ear close to the ground on this; I appreciate the updates.
Of course, the way it is going, we will have enough folks to do our own impromptu DW event if nothing else! 8)
-
An early schedule of events is posted on the Adepticon homepage. Also, Teras sent an e-mail saying the pre-public event signup opens on 16 Nov.
-
I got the same email! Looks like the finalized list of events will be out this Friday according to the Adepticon website. Once we all figure out what we plan on doing and when, we need to sit down and find a time for our naval gaming shenanigans!
-
Hopefully by this point, everyone has gotten their registrations done! Please don't forget to either update the Google calendar I made or send me your events list, so that I can make a combined MBS Adepticon calendar. The goal will be to find the "white" space where we can all get together and meet!
Oh, and I am seriously looking at doing some T-shirts for the group 8).
-
I'll get on the G-Calendar this weekend sometime.
And I'll gladly sport MBS colors. And/or put an MBS patch/pin on my Gaming Fez.
-
Quick update, looks like Zorper (Todd) will also be joining us at Adepticon for the Planetfall tourney!
-
Sweet!
-
Great news! I'm going to have to get moving on a T-shirt design 8).
-
Draft scenarios are UP:

-
Hey all! Thought it might be a good idea to talk out what games we are going to play (outside of events of course!). Reason being, we are all going to be traveling quite a distance to get to the show, and so we can't bring too much stuff with us. Plus, we need to leave room for all the loot we are going to get at the con ;). Here is my list:
Games That I'm bringing for sure:
Firestorm Armada (Playing in tournament)
BFG (Playing in tournament)
DW (PE and maybe FSA)
Halo Fleet Battles
Games that I'm Considering Bringing (If there is interest among all of you who are going to the con):
War at Sea
Star Trek Attack Wing
X-Wing
Star Wars Armada
-
I'll be playing:
Firestorm (Tournament)
Planetfall (Tournament)
Malifaux (event an open play)
Bringing:
-- Little bit of Warmachine for pickup games
-- DC Deckbuilder cards
-- Whatever other boardgame I can compress into a cigar box, like BB Team Manager or Death Angel
I'd play STAW or X-Wing (etc), but I doubt I'll have space for them.
-
Well, for STAW and W@S I would have no problem bringing enough stuff for two sides; those games travel pretty compactly. 8)
-
Bringing for Sure (at least 95% sure):
-Firestorm Armada (two 1000-point RSN fleets for tournament)
-Dystopian Wars (1250-point FSA fleet for Grudge Match with Andy :) )
-Deep Wars (Fortune Hunters and Ancients of Atalan warbands)
-Halo: Fleet Battles (not sure how much, but at least 1000 points each of UNSC and Covenant)
Considering Bringing:
Firefly board game (if I have enough space)
X-Wing (possibly 100-150 points of Rebels and Imperials for pick up games)
-
I'll see if I can fit my STAW or X-Wing. Otherwise I'm just bringing Planetfall and Firestorm.
-
I'm actually driving out to Chicago, so space is not a problem for me. I'm bringing:
-PlanetFall
-Dystopian Wars (hope to find a pickup game)
(Games not related to this thread)
-Necromunda
-Wild West Exodus
-Kings of War
-
If I try any new games this con, wish list includes Wild West Exodus, KoW, and Guildball.
I need more HALO games too.
But my override setting will be to get games in with non-Colorado folks. I know at least 3-4 acquaintances from Templecon will be there, so there's a few Warmachine matches. And like many, I'll be looking for games with the Firebase Delta guys, or the D6G, or the Nerdherders. And Ruckdog Actual of course! ;-)
-
I am negotiating with the Director of Travel Operations to arrange a trip to Adepticon, but will likely be doing the Bolt Action Nationals.
-
For those in the Firestorm Armada tournament, I recommend listening to the Mann's Model Moments podcast episode 12. It's an interview with the Waygate, Jaded Gamer, and Firebase Delta podcasts, all of whom will be at Adepticon, talking about the meta in their gaming groups. It's pretty good Intel on how they build and use fleets.
**Edit: it's the Hub Systems podcast.

Awesome! I will definitely check that out.
In other news, I've got a couple of draft T-shirt designs put together:
Design 1 is a grey shirt with a front pocket (which I always find handy):
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/31/775262_sm-.jpg) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/775262-.html)
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/31/775263_sm-.jpg) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/775263-.html)
Design 2 uses a blue shirt, no pocket:
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/31/775260_sm-.jpg) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/775260-.html)
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/31/775261_sm-.jpg) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/775261-.html)
Keep in mind, these are very preliminary. The wording, fonts, artwork, positioning, etc. are all up for discussion if you guys want to see something different. Because of the artwork and the low production run, these will be a bit pricey...I would ask for $20 each for them to help offset the cost for these designs. I can cut down the cost to say, around $15 by going with less art or a less expensive shirt, that sort of thing. Let me know what you think!
-
I'm good with either.
-
I think I prefer Design 2. What do those signal flags on the front mean? I'm going to assume "all hands to your battlestations" or something like that...
-
The signal flags are the Mike, Bravo, and Sierra flags, for "MBS." 8)
-
Don't they also mean, I am stopped, dangerous cargo, engines going astern? Are we sure that's the message we want to send? ;)
In honor of Greg's RSN, maybe we should do:
Juliet - On Fire
Bravo - Dangerous Cargo
Zulu - Require a Tug
:)
-

I'm assuming you are using the international codes?
Eh, the thing is, in more "casual" settings (ie, not at sea), you commonly see the signal flags being used to spell things, and not used as codes.
Besides, starting with Mike, my string would probably equate to some sort of medical code :)
-
Lol, I'm good with it as-is.
-
Maybe we each need our own codes...
Spiders!
Oh God!
Run!!!

<sigh> I really don't know why I continue to play with you people...
-
To quote Black Adder:
Black Adder - "Am I paying extra for this abuse?"
Physician- "Oh no sir, it's all part of the service."
Seriously, we only give this much crap to the people we like. :)
-
I must be really well-liked.
-
Revised shirt design!
(http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/2/3/776107_sm-.png) (http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/776107-.html)
This one uses the new logo, and goes with the consensus that it should be on the back. What do you think?
-
I'll plan on wearing my t-shirts "Sheldon Cooper style" for Adepticon (i.e. over a long sleeve) - that way I can show off the back logo. :-)
-
Looks good Andy. Coming in around the same price?
-
Yep! Still holding to the $20 price point.
-
Landlubber's thread on his new space mat (http://www.manbattlestations.com/forum/index.php?topic=1145.0) got me to thinking...we should probably start thinking about who will be bringing what in terms of mats and terrain! I have a nice 4x6 water mat I was planning on bringing, along with my Dreadfleet mat (I forget the dimensions on this, but I want to say it is around 3.5x5'), my War at Sea mat, and my 3x3' space mat.
-

I'm bringing my cloth ocean-themed mat for Dystopian Wars, and my cloth space-themed mat for everything else. The vinyl mats are nice, but they're just too big to bring--the cloth mats fold up very small, and the space mat is big enough to accommodate any games that need up to a 4'x8' play area. I'll also bring lava rocks (asteroids), probably a TA-4 Starport space station model, and maybe some of my islands for Dystopian Wars.
-
I know there's no room for my 6x4 "mousepad" mat. And I doubt there'll be bag-room for terrain that isn't flat :-)
That said, I'll have a Relthozan station for my 2nd list that could be terrain, and some flat asteroids and planets from X-Wing, BFG, etc.
-
Yeah, I was figuring terrain would be flat counters and even felt or cloth templates, so that they can be rolled up for easy storage.
One thing, with bringing my 6'x4' mat, that would be enough run two separate games on by divding it in half to two 3'x4' areas. That actually works well to keep game lengths down, though of course you do lose some of your maneuvering room!
-
You guys are welcome to use either of my gaming mats at the con if I'm not using them myself. They're very light and fold up easily. I will bring the space mat to the Firestorm Armada tourney, not sure if it will get used.
-
Who knows? At least there will be an extra ;). I'm planning on bringing some felt pieces to serve as "terrain" as well. I figure it will transport easily.
-
At this point, I'm hoping that we can start refining the schedule a bit. Looking at what's on the Google calendar right now, it seems like Thursday afternoon may be the best window of opportunity for most or all of us to get together for a few hours. It's either that, or pick one evening and stay up late to do it! What do you all think? I would like to get a head count together of who all is going to be there, as I'm thinking of making a certificate for all of you to commemorate the get-together ;).
-
I'm good until 5 on Thursday--got a terrain workshop to go to. :)
-
I've got Planetfall on Thuraday, Dark Age on Friday, and Armada on Saturday. Sunday is clear and Friday I could dump if something more interesting comes up.
-
I've got PlanetFall on Friday. Is there an event on Thursday that I don't know about?
Firestorm Planetfall: The Schaumburg Beachhead
Day: Friday | Start Time: 9:00 AM | End Time: 5:00 PM | Category: Firestorm Planetfall | Event Type: Tournament | Age Requirements: Mature (16+) | Experience Required: Some | Location: Adventure Hall | More Info: The WayGate | Remaining Capacity: 1 | Cost: 15.00
-
I must've gotten my dates turned around. Swap Thurs and Friday.
-
it seems like Thursday afternoon may be the best window of opportunity for most or all of us to get together for a few hours.
I've kept Thursday wide open for this sort of thing, or random play for Malifaux and Warmachine.
Also, I'm hoping games can be set in the evenings, after the dinners. There's some prime drink-n-play hours there. I'll mainly have my own models for Firestorm, Planetfall, and Malifaux. But I'm game for whatever else (HALO, BFG, Guildball, boardgames, etc) if there are loaners. :-)
If packing goes well, I might bring "travel editions" of Blood Bowl Team Manager, DC Comics Deckbuilder, and whatever else can condense. :-)
-
I will be there but arriving Friday due to scheduling issues. I'm free most of Friday, but SAT/SUN is taken up by Tournament
-
It ain't looking good for the Planetfall Relthoza these days...
I got tabled again by Marty's Dindrenzi, second game in a row @ 2500. And he's just started playing.
First match, he had an air power skew plus artillery that just vaped my armor from side shots and such.
Second match, he went for minimal armor, 4x Nyx Sky Drops, and 2x Archangels. They started dropping on the 3rd activation, no way I could avoid them and they ate my armor and flyers without breaking a sweat.
In both games, the vaunted Relth infantry was too little, too late, and no staying power. That last nerf they did to the Infantry took them firmly too far in the other direction (IMHO).
I'll at least enjoy the con, but illusions of competitiveness are gone. I'd bring my fun/silly 3x Leviathan list if I could pack them.
And post-Con, if the new Orbats nerf the rest of the Relth list, going forward will be a struggle.
-
Well, you pounded me in February. So maybe you'll get the chance to do it again :'(
-
Tomorrow it begins!
-
Big congrats to Ruckdog, who took home Best Painted at the Adepticon Firestorm tourney!
-
Thanks! It was a lot of fun getting to play you in the event! I will have a in-depth report up on the blog, probably over the weekend.
-
Awesome, can't wait!
-
Some pictures I took around the con while you all were fighting it out on the Planetfall, Armada, and Malifaux tables:

I posted photos of most of the Firestorm Armada Fleets in my blog, and will post photos of Cerberus Station and the three fleets contesting it this weekend.

We're also working hard to create several different Firestorm Armada Events for the 2016 NOVA in Alexandria, VA (just south of DC). Greg and Andy will be getting our initial event packets in an e-mail, so we can discuss it during the next Podcast. I'm hoping some of you can find a way to travel out for at least one of our FSA events.
Hopefully, the Podcast will coincide with the official announcement and open registration for the FSA events.
