The past few years have seen some of the most popular (or to some people, most infamous or most hated) science fiction franchises get converted into tabletop miniatures games--X-Wing, Attack Wing, and now Halo. So I thought I'd throw a little poll together to see what IP you all would like to see next converted into a miniatures game. Poll is open for 7 days, and you have 5 votes...choose wisely! :P

I gotta say, I would really love to see a Babylon 5 fleet game done right and supported with nice miniatures. Even if it was based on like Firestorm: Armada rules or something similar, as long as the models were as cool as is deserved.
-
Kicking the proverbial can around the other day with folks @ Gamer's Haven. With the success of Star Wars Armada and that Fantasy Flight & GW seem to have a good relationship, it would be severely detrimental to my wallet... I mean awesome, if FF could release a Battlefleet Gothic game.
-
Even though my vote should have been the "NONE, I have too many unpainted minis", I have voted for five items and that was not one of them. Gotta keep stimulating the economy, you know.

The single smartest revenue choice GW could make would be to farm all its former Specialist games over to FFG. They'd make Battlefleet Gothic really work, finally. But that's far too smart for GW to do, and HALO will be pwning the market soon enough.
Battlestar Galactica would be fun, but rally its just a single box-set worth, having only two factions and limited minis.
A Babylon-5 revival would be cool - I still feel so burned from Mongoose's fumbling of the product. we still have all of Stephan's CTA sheets and stats though, and I still have my Centauri, Drazi, and early EA for games, not to mention every cardboard ship cut-out ever.
Bab-5 could only happen if JMS got off his jaded butt and made a real deal for the show to live again.
As for the others, never enough factions or designs for new games. And some of those ships were awful. Though I'm fond of BUCK ROGERS, that starfighter was so lame I remember trading my old toy of it to a friend for some Micronauts.
FARSCAPE is about the only IP with a ton of alternate ships, but everything was a little too spazzy, hand-waving biomechanics, and more about people than ship fights, for there to be a coherent game.
I'd still adore it if someone could crack the realism of Honor Harrington or The Expanse series into an actual playable game.

BFG 2.0 would be amazing. I think FFG would do well by BFG, at least in the rules, though I'm doubtful it will go that way. I am really happy that vestiges of the game are showing up in some of FFG's board game and RPG offerings, though! A new B5 game and minis line would be great, too. A lot of the older minis are getting hard to find, aren't up to modern standards as far as detail goes, or both. However, B5 seems like it is dead and buried, with the IP holder (which is now Warner Bros, I believe) showing precisely zero interest in reviving it anytime soon. :-[
As for other IPs not mentioned, I'd love to see a new game/minis line for the Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato universe. Same situation as B5, really; the game is still out there, but is a little hard to find and some of the sculpts aren't up to par. Oh, and I definitely second Dale's desire to see a lighter Honor Harrington game than the currently-available SITS game. With the movie on the way next year, we might see a tie-in using the less hard scifi designs that have been developed for the big screen.

Well, the poll is closed...why am I not surprised that B5 came out on top?? :P
Unfortunately nothing can be done with this information, but it's good to see how everyone feels on the topic. Personally, I'd like to see a version of BSG similar to X-Wing--tactical fighter combat. I know, I know, there isn't enough variety in the ships, but still...who WOULDN'T want to fly a squadron of Vipers across the table and smoke some toasters???
Thanks to all who voted!
And to the people who voted for the Star Wars prequels...shame on you. You know who you are. :o

Hey now! The Venator-Class Star Destroyer is wicked cool, closely followed by the Lucrehulk-Class Battleship and Munificent-Class Frigate? Why you hating, Lubber? Ha!
-
That is something I've always wondered about...why not dip into the prequels for ship/fighter designs for X-Wing and Armada? Especially the Venerator; we know that ship survived into the Imperial era!
-
Might be licensing issues.
Or maybe FFG realizes that many of their X-Wing players would pile up their minis in the driveway, torch them, and pee on the ashes if they dipped into the prequels.

They're clearly dipping into REBELS now. And as a fan of the CLONE WARS toons, I say why not do ships of that era? Hell, how cool would Count Dooku's solar sailer thing be?!?

Realy! Space above and beyound! Wow, never seen or heard of it since the late 1990's. I can't even find a stream of it somewhere.

Yeah. Might have been a good show. Definitely had potential. And I really liked the Hammerhead fighter design.
