Chris - Need to cancel tonight.  I've got some parent stuff I need to take care of.  Need to give your dice a break anyway.

There are two variants of the orb.  One has just generators, but the other has the Time Flow generator AND an energy blast weapon that has a 360 fire arc and does 3d6 AD at RB 1 and RB2, and 1d6 AD at RB 3.  It's one of those "ignore at your own peril" units.

Just got my Support Flotilla and was looking over the models and, I have two questions about the orb:

1.   Is there any ruling on which drop-in generator to use with which version?  The Spartan store only calls them "tall"  and "short" generators.

2.  (more of a clarification really)  Reading the latest CoA Force list, it reads that the Alpha/Time Orb has both the Dilation Field Generator & Teleportation Generator at no cost, while the Beta/Battle Orb has a Time Flow Generator, Shield Generator and Energy Blast all also at no cost.  am I reading that right or is there another rule somewhere that I'm forgetting?

I agree with Ruckdog about DW's wow factor but, you should look at what you can get on the table.  Of all your fleets (or if you have other players able to supply fleets) which of the games is going to give you the greatest coverage of factions/model types.  If your goal is to draw new players. Speaking for myself, I would like to see the largest cross section of what's available.  For all it's wow factor if you can only field two or three factions of DW but, you can get almost all of the FA factions maybe go with that.  And if that's not enough to consider also keep in mind which rule set your most comfortable with.  Maybe keeping a quick reference guide handy to talk through the rules or a reference sheet that dedicates about a paragraph of fluff about the different factions.  DW was one of the first games i got into based on the lore rather than the models or rules.

I guess I rambled a bit but I hope it gives you a few things to consider.

PS also see if you can get a map.  One of the first things I look for in any rule book is a map.  It just makes things more real.

Anyone up for a quick-ish DW game Monday?  I have just under 3 hours while baby-girl is in ballet across the street.  I figured patrol fleet?  Form 5:30 to 8:20.

Kicking the proverbial can around the other day with folks @ Gamer's Haven.  With the success of Star Wars Armada and that Fantasy Flight & GW seem to have a good relationship,  it would be severely detrimental to my wallet...   I mean awesome, if FF could release a Battlefleet Gothic game.

Thanks for the kind words.  Just know that there are three other ships that served as the prototypes and there were a few simple green baths along the way..  I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I chose yellow as my signature color across all my armies & games  (fortunately I spared my CoA fleet).  I did find a video tat made everything click when it said to think of yellow almost as a translucent, bringing along the color/shade of whatever you pant under it.  I tried to find the video to link but no luck.

Landlubber:  To answer your question I think I'm going with a random pattern unique to each ship, starting with primarily yellow plates in the front and more grey ones as you move aft.  I described it almost as a pixilated flame job but I don't know if that's such a good analogy.  The concept does work better with larger ships.

Ruckdog:  I washed the whole model with citadel's Cassondora Yellow first the put P3s Cryx Bane Highlight on top.  I'll be sure to do a tutorial for my next one.  Thanks for the input.

It's taken a while and a few misfires but I finally have a color-scheme I'm happy with.  I tried to keep it simple; primer white, yellow wash, grey, and a black wash over the grey areas.  It's got a slight shine since I hit it with a quick matte varnish to protect the paint.  Now, as soon as I finish this commission I'm working on, I can crank out the rest.  I'm getting there Quickdraw.

Very nice.  Was talking just the other day with Quickdraw about doing something similar with the CoA fortress and some sort of ice flow.

No, no space elevator.  I read the end of Red Mars.  That thing destroyed half the planet.
