Empire of the Blazing suns Naval Tactics
« on: April 12, 2012, 11:51:12 am »
Well, I though I'd post up how I play my EotBS, and it's a very Rocket heavy, Boarding style, I Generally try to take anything that fires rockets, with the Incendiary Rounds MAR, and follow that up with Navel squads with a good amount of AP, my typical list involves The Sokotsu Class, with Two Ika's, a Full squad of Nakatsu Class Cruisers, with the Incendiary rounds upgrade, a full squad of Frigates, some escorts for the Sokotsu, and I've been playing around with the Sky Fortress and War Gyro, trying them out to see which I like better, and usually I spend the first turn taking each squad and deciding which they are going to hit the rest of the game, and just launch rockets till the sun shines, and then cut the distance starting from turn 2 and on, to get close enough to do some boarding assaults, I generally keep my squid under water, most of the game, to keep it alive and bring it up when it is close enough to it's model I want it to hit, usually a Dreadnought or Battleship, situation pending, and during it's movement when it advances towards the Battleship/Dreadnought, I lay some mines, just because.

Now, during the Boarding process, I try to spread out my boarding assaults, simply put, we excel at boarding when we force our enemy to spread his AA. Hopefully by the end of the game I have  ether derelict-ed his big ships or prized some of them, I have thus far been successful.

Yeah, those rockets can be pretty deadly! I've found that the Ika has given me the most trouble, though, thanks to its defensive bonuses as a submerged model.

I tried using an Ika for the first time, properly, the other day, and it worked quite well at sneaking up to the enemy (laying mines along the way), and then surfacing to attack and make derelict an enemy ship.  Until recently, I have followed the tactical doctrine of keeping to longer range bands until those rocket batteries start to damage the enemy (I fear boarding actions like nothing else), even when it has led to my opponent's ships chasing mine all around the tabletop.

I think matching my EBS fleet against orangetom's fleet might be a good learning experience on fleet tactics for both of us.
