Landlubber's UNSC
« on: August 30, 2015, 01:25:23 pm »
I've managed to work through a few of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) ships from the Halo: Fleet Battles starter box (I don't paint nearly as fast as Quickdraw, plus work has been a real pain here recently, so I don't have the whole fleet done).

For naming conventions, I'm using world capital cities for the frigates, and mythological gods of war for the Marathon-class cruisers.

Paris-class frigates Zagreb, Singapore, and Johannesburg in arrowhead formation:

Paris-class frigates London, Hong Kong, and Cairo in trident formation:

Marathon-class cruiser Agurzil, named for the ancient Berber god of war:

And finally the cruiser , named for the Hawaiian god of war, supported by the frigate Montevideo.

Don't strain your eyes...there are no distinguishing differences between the ships in each class. The models are too small. I toyed with the idea of putting numeric markings on at least the cruisers, but decided against it. I'm just going to have a pool of names for each ship class, and assign them however I want in future battle reports and pictures.  ;) The green markings indicate these ships are from Task Force 169; as I add other ships to the collection, they may get different colors, indicating they are from other task forces. That's my logic, and I'm stickin' to it.  :D

Comments and constructive criticism welcome!

Finished!

27 frigates, 4 heavy cruisers, and 1 heavy carrier.

Most of these ships belong to Task Force 169, as denoted by the green markings. I won't name every single frigate, but here are the cruisers.

UNSC , escorted by frigate Zagreb; UNSC Minerva, escorted by frigate Singapore; and UNSC Agurzil, unescorted:

From Task Force 408, the heavy cruiser UNSC Odin, with frigates Sydney, Moscow, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Oslo, and Beijing:

The heavy carrier UNSC Everest, with upgraded sensor and antennae packages, escorted by the frigate Johannesburg:

And finally, an element of frigates from the UNSC's Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). These ships also have names, but that information is on a need-to-know basis.  :D  As my collection of UNSC ships grows, we may see more ONI ships...

With the completion of all the UNSC models in the starter box, this marks the first time in my 4+ years of tabletop wargaming that I have painted every model I own for any one faction of any fleet game (I have fielded a fully-painted Fortune Hunters warband in Deep Wars, which comprised all the models I owned at the time for that faction, but that was only 5 figures and doesn't really count, I don't think). Of course, this will all go out the window when I pick up the new UNSC fleet box being released at the end of September, which will have another 2 heavy carriers, 4 heavy cruisers, and 30 frigates...  :(

Constructive comments and criticism are welcome. Thanks for looking!

The ONI frigates are a cool addition. That's quite an awesome fleet with the two task forces.

Great work! Those came out very nicely. I like the names and backstory you have for them so far, too.

EDIT: I've posted a few of these on the MBS Facebook page for others to enjoy, too :).
