Vassal... BFG B5CtA
« on: March 02, 2016, 03:16:36 pm »
So I have a quick question for those of you who have played BFG at some point. Who would be up for a ManBattlestations campaign with BFG or Bab5 A call to arms ( so long as dale does not play the centruitai or however you spell them)?

This friday night I plan on getting a game together with Ruck of BFG, if it goes smoothly and we have no real problems with how it works I plan on asking Ruck if he wants to make it a twice month campaign game, with others welcome to join in as time allows. At least I dont have to paint and pay 3 times the models value for campaign.

How would I NOT play The GLORIOUS CENTAURI REPUBLIC!?!

The alternative is I play my dear friend Mr. Morden and his associates... and you don't want that, believe me.

I still have Stephan's B5 stat sheets somewhere. And every token for the game ever, and a fully painted Purple Drazi fleet. Not that that matters for VAssal.

I know that Scribd.com had all the B5 game books from the revised set, or the one that you sold me dale. I just dont have a Scribd account any more. What about BFG dale? Would you be willing if time allowed? knowing you twice a month may be a bit much to ask for.

I haven't seen updated BFG lists in ages. Do folks use a fan site now or the old books?

I'd be game for BFG, but there are balance questions I recall, such as how to handle Thunderhawk spam, or Tyranid Spore spam. Or Orky Frigate Spam for that matter --- I seem to recall someone running a bajillion of the Ork ram-ships, and things becoming No Fun At All.

As for time, twice a month is a LOT easier when I can play from home versus coordinating an in-town meet-up.

here is the site, and it has all the fleet lists and books.

Also dale, some things like the Ork Frigate spam, and thunderhawk spam have been addressed. The thunderhawk issue was simple. You can only have out as man wings of fighters as you have hangers. once launched you have to to reload ordenance and wait for them to do their attacks or be destoryed before launching a new wave.

Ie if you have 4 squads or wings out, and 3 make an attack run and the last is dogfighing an eldar fighter wing, well next turn you launch only 3 wings not another 4.

For ork frigate spam, I think they solved that by stating that x amount of points must be on cruisers per so many points.

Some of the fleet lists are commmunity made, and approved for use at Adepticon. I think the majority of them are.

If ruck doesn't want the link in his forms, I apoligize and will give you the links upon request.

Thanks - can't wait to check it out, and I might need to wander by the BFG event at Adepticon. :-)

Thanks for starting the thread Ulric! If we get some serious interest on this, I will happily make a sub-forum for the campaign(s).

Those revised ordnance rules have been out for quite a while...2002 IIRC ;). Make sure to check out the 2010 FAQ. It has subtle changes for all sorts of things, like blast markers and torpedoes (all torpedoes use the Str 3 template and one or more D6s to indicate their strength). The general consensus is that the 2007 version of the rule book (hosted on the MBS downloads page BTW), combined with the 2010 FAQ, are the "official" rules.

That's fine! I post there myself ;). There is a BFG Rules Repository set up on Google Drive as well:

Oh boy oh boy oh boy.  Havent touched my BFG in years now. Not sure if the internet at our new house will let me run vassal very well but depending on time I am interested to at least sit in on a game being played.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Sure come on over and watch. I think that Ruck is planning to use his imperials against my Chaos fleet. 1000pts each. Lets see how this match plays out. Also if you want to get a game in let me know. My thursdays thru sundays are normally open. I just study and fill in time with events as they come.

Ruck and I had our first BFG game on Vassal. So some notes really quickly.

Movement was the thing that slowed down the game the most. However with use of the Hot keys you can move very quickly, still not as fast as just picking up and moving but close enough.  Some bugs with the compass when used to determine facing, though we should have just removed the image from the counter to reveal the compass on the base of each ship when that occured. Other than that and the ordance movment having to be with the tape measures it went well.

I now remember why I hated those flithly nova cannons, it hit my demonship and did some damage to it, though in the end I guess I shouldn't complain because rucks die rolls just stank. If he had been able to get his fighters reloaded and launched as bombers it would have been a different game, but as it stood I was able to launch fighters and such every turn once I was within strike range of his ships.

Andrew said he was interested in a Campaign after adeptacon, so is Andy. Is anyone else, I know expressed some interest in it. I Thinking this could be a good event to get the community a little more involved and tight knit. No rewards for winning, just done purely for fun.

From experience running campaigns in the past it's a lot more fun with more people, if a bit more involved...  ;) As I said earlier I'm down for something, even if we end up just getting a game or two sparcely through a month it would be a lot more BFG action then I've seen in a long time :D

I had a great time! It was fun rolling some BFG again, even if it was on a virtual table top ;).

I will be sending out the monthly newsletter tomorrow, and I'll make sure to mention that we are looking to start a BFG campaign there. I'll also start working up the map and other assorted details. Even though we are in preliminary discussions, I may also create a separate sub-forum for the campaign to start directing people to.
