Anybody know what this camo is?
« on: October 20, 2013, 07:25:29 pm »
Hey - anyone know what this camo pattern is?

http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/C2NxwHIDTUA/maxresdefault.jpg

I saw it in the 1997 movie The Peacemaker (where this image is from), but I think it was also on some old Micro Machines Military vehicles.

Any help or advice on how to find out the name or origin?

Here's a Micro Machine Abrams done in a similar/the same style:

A quick google search didn't reveal any good results.  Could very well be a coincidence between the film and the Micro Machines toy.  I was Army myself, and am not an expert, but I've not seen that color scheme before.  Might have been something they ginned up for the film to make the helicopters look different.

Are you trying to replicate it, or are you just curious as to what it's called?

Thanks for the response!

Yeah I've been doing internet research on and off for the last four days or so.  I might have to go find some Jane's books at the library and see what I can find...

I am thinking about replicating it, but I also want to know if it was real, who used it (NATO in Europe maybe?), what it's called, etc.

I don't know anything about it... but I like it!  Sort of like a traditional woodland camo pattern mashed up against the plain gray steel... I think this could work great on some ships with blue/green against battleship gray.

I think the bird is a Eurocopter HH-65 Dauphin (Dolphin). Here is the USCG variant:

(Eurocopter's US subsidiary was formerly known as Aerospatiale.) Compare:

It is probably just a one-off paint scheme on a civilian Dolphin used for the movie. The white and red stripes beside the star were discontinued on real USAF equipment at some point. Was it before 1997? And, are the stripes too long, compared to the authentic marking on the USCG bird?

Agreed about the Dauphin.  I don't think the USAF operated any in Europe, and in the US only the USCG and some police forces had any, as far as I know.

However, on a different forum someone suggested the camo scheme to be called "Europe One," used mainly on fixed wing aircraft.  Based on Google Image searches, I think that's a likely name for it.

What do you guys think?
