Spartan's "Official" Paint Jobs
« on: October 06, 2014, 08:04:36 pm »
Just thought I would share this link, for those that haven't seen it:

http://www.ilnanonefasto.it/miniature/9/1

This is the website of the Italian painter Spartan uses to paint many of the models used for its official box art and rule books.

His stuff is amazing.  Heck, a four year old's stuff is amazing when compared to my bare resin and metal schemes.

Don't feel bad! It seems like for every miniature I get painted, I wind up buying 3 or 4 more.

Here, here.  (Or is it "hear, hear"?).  I have the same problem, with both models and books. And hiking trails. And foreign travel.

Kind of reviving this thread.  As I'm getting ready to actually decide on colors and paint stuff, I'm curious as to what "official" paint schemes you like and dislike, and why.  And what other schemes you've seen that you've enjoyed.

I've seen some great ideas here (thank you all) and on the Spartan forums.  So far for me, I know my Aquans will be some blueish-purple hull color.  The organic look and the ocean dwelling crews lend themselves to that.  I really dig the "official" Ba'Kash look, the gold/copper/bronze vs the green glow, so I think I'll go with some version of that.  My Syndicate will mirror the official look as well.  Everything else is up for grabs.

I'm rather fond of the Oroshan scheme (that's why I kept mine as close to that as I did). Lets see... Hawker, Works Raptor, Ba'kash, the newer Aquans (see the Stingray box art), and Kedorians are all really cool looking. Most of the rest are workable but some are just... awful.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

I actually like pretty much all of the "official" paint schemes Spartan uses, both for DW and Firestorm. I don't think I've ever looked at box photos for any of their fleets and thought the paint scheme didn't match the faction and ships.

If anything, I sometimes find it challenging to develop a scheme that I think looks as good as Spartan's chosen scheme, but doesn't mimic it.
