Many thanks to Dale for putting today's Spartan Day together, and of course to the Haven staff for giving us a place to play. I only took a few pictures of the Halo: Fleet Battles demo game that I ran. It was a home-brewed scenario where the Covenant started in the middle of the map, with the fleet investigating some asteroids that might contain Forerunner artifacts. The UNSC detected the Covenant ships and launched an ambushing force. Initial deployment looked like this:
I had each player keep two battlegroups in reserve, and they had to spend an order die with the Command icon per battlegroup to bring them into play, starting in turn two. One of the UNSC battlegroups was the Cerberus (paired Marathon cruisers), and one of the Covenant groups was the Penitent (paired RCS armored cruisers)--both quite nasty, although the Covenant player ripped into the Cerberus very quickly.
Both fleets were pretty hard on their boarding craft--not too many survived their Heroic Saves, and many brave UNSC marines and Covenant Grunts and Elites were lost to the dark, cold void of space.
We called the game after turn 5; both forces had beaten each other bloody.
The Covenant would likely have mopped up the remaining UNSC forces, as the Penitent battlegroup was still going strong.
Again, thanks much to Dale and the Haven staff for a fun Spartan Day!
