Landlubber's RoF Furieux-class Scoutship
« on: December 27, 2012, 11:26:19 pm »
These are pretty cool little ships, and they have quite a bit of detail.  Some of my favorite models so far in the DW line.  The hull is pretty intricate, and took awhile to paint, but I think it was worth it.

Base color is Citadel's Fortress Grey, with some Codex Gray and Thunderhawk Blue for the camouflage.  I wanted to make the camouflage pattern look a little "fuzzy", so I drybrushed the Codex Gray and Thunderhawk Blue.  I think it works, but my opinion is a little biased.

The numbers on the nose are decals from Flames of War (I think--I got the transfer sheets at Historicon).  Took me awhile to get those little buggers on...

I plan on doing 2 more ships in the same pattern for a full squadron.

Enjoy the pics--as always, comments/criticisms welcome!

I like the "fuzzy" camo pattern--it's different from the sharp lines of the traditional dazzle ship camo.

The decal numbers on the prow look very good.

My suggestion would be to try painting those gun barrels; even just a bit of black will bring them out from the hull and make the model look a bit more threatening.

Nice work! I really like the color combo, and the nose markings really set them off. My French scout ships are still only about half done, and this is inspiring me to get back to work on them!

Looks really  good.  I like the pennant number on the nose

Thanks all for the comments.

Aaron, I tried what you were talking about with one of my French medium tanks.  But after I did it, I didn't like the way the gun barrel stood out against everything else.

Will post pics of the full squadron once they're done.

Squadron is complete!

I decided that my RoF would track ship sizes numerically.  So the Furieux-class will always start with 3; Tourbillon-class, 2; and the Vauban-class, 1.  (I don't have a Vauban yet, but I am currently working on the Tourbillon.)  The Voltaire-class, when I get around to them, will be in the 4 series.

To that end, here are my Furieux-class scoutships 384, 360, and 371.

I like your numbering concept.  Are you going to do the same when you get some Alma class flying frigates?

Thanks MadDrB.

Not sure about the skimmer frigates.  I'll probably use a different numbering convention for the skimmer and surface naval vessels.  But I haven't figured that out yet.

Yeah it looks great!  I especially like the flag iconography.
