Use STAR cards?
« on: April 14, 2012, 05:10:13 pm »
There has been some curiosity from new players about using the STAR cards, and I hear plenty of players claim they don't like them but have never actually played a game using them.  So, I'm just wondering at some percentages here of players prefering them, indifferent, or hating them.

I selected the "always use them" option, although I should caveat that by saying that if my opponent has real reservations about using them in the game, I am willing to set them aside.

I like them, considering the game is depends on the luck of the roll, it gives you some control, not alot but gives you that feel.

Kyle and I have been playing with stacked 32 card decks; his is stacked with extra repair and shooting buffs while my deck has extra movement bonus and generator offline cards.  Both of us liked the faction specific card decks in Uncharted Seas and modifying our DW decks provides that feeling of unique qualities of a faction.

Yes, I think orangetom puts it well: the cards give you a feel of control but don't push the game balance out the window, especially since most cards can be countered.

Yeah, the customizable cards have been repeatedly rumored for both DW and FA...unfortunately, they have proved to be nothing but vaporware so far. I would really like to see them for both of the other games, as it seems like it would add a really neat dimension to the game.

I like using the STAR cards...my biggest problem with them, however, is REMEMBERING to use them.  I can't tell you how many times I've held onto a card that I could have used in a couple of different situations, merely because I forgot I had it.

But that's an "operator" issue, nothing wrong with the card itself.  :-\

I think they must have updated the STAR cards. I got some and i swear there are cards in here that I have NEVER seen before. I'll have to take a look to pic out specific ones, but i might be wrong on this.

I had heard of some cards I am pretty sure I don't have in my own deck!  Care to report on them?

Yeah, I'd like to see these cards as well.  If they've updated the STAR cards, I need to get the new pack!

Just went through every card in the deck and think I have it sorted. The cards in question (at least the ones I remember from when I first posted) are Swift Strike and Mechanics. Noticed that there were only one of each in the deck, so for the last year I must have been unlucky enough to never get them.

I do however have a question on the Barrage From Hell card. It states:

Play this card BEFORE the AD dice are rolled

This Capital class model can Link Fire with FULL dice with EITHER it's Primary or Secondary guns.

When using this card do you HAVE to link? Also if you do link, is it then considered Combined Fire?
