The mini quality is not up to par with X-Wing, at all. As Trek minis go, they are not bad. They are superior to the old Galoob MicroMachines we used back in "the day" for Trek gaming (when tires were made of stone and you pedaled with your feet). They really aren't to scale, except the USS Enterprise 1701 (no bloody A, B, etc). Sadly these are all re-used models from HeroClix, and when complaints about scale surfaced in that game, the result was 1701 being "in scale" to the 1701-D. Hence why it is referred to as the "Tinyprise".
That said, here are some comparisons to MicroMachines for perspective (these are the HeroClix models, but same molds):
And, despite the mini quality, the game plays very well. I really enjoy it; lots of fun. As with most things, the way I prefer to play is not always the way others do; I've read about Organized Play events won by dudes flying Borg with Picard in command and some Romulan officer etc., etc. I like "Faction Pure" or at least "Show Believable" builds.
