Needed to take a break from my RoF models, so I thought I'd give the Aussies a shot. Picked up the fleet box set at Genghis Con for 40% off. I wasn't looking to get into the Australians, but the price was right, and I've always liked the look of their ships. I'll be building mine as Royal Australians.
I haven't yet tried separate colors for the hull and superstructure (is that the right word?) for a ship, but I got this scheme in mind for the Australians one day on my commute, and I thought it would look good. Interested to hear your comments/constructive criticism.
This is a
Victoria-class monitor. (Ruckdog, as the resident naval expert, can you explain what a monitor vessel is?). I haven't yet thought of a naming convention for my Australian ships.
I'm pretty happy with the combination of the red and blue colors. The hull was based with Vallejo's Midnight Blue, with a light dry brush of Vallejo's Twilight Blue. The superstructure (if that's the right word) was based with two coats of Testor's Insignia Red from their Model Master acrylic line, with a medium dry brush of Evil Sunz Scarlet from Citadel/GW.
This particular vessel is equipped with a tesla coil (Stephan, our local Prussian player, has already accused me of espionage). I tried the object source lighting effect on the tesla coil, but I'm not quite as happy with is as I am with my French heat lances.
Anyway, thanks for looking!
