Taking Another Look At Star Trek Attack Wing
« on: December 31, 2015, 12:02:15 pm »
I have to admit, this has been a long time in coming. I started collecting STAW minis when the game launched, and for the first year or so I kept up pretty well with at least the Federation stuff (they're my favorite faction). However, since I never really got into playing the game, I hadn't bought much since July 2014 (the Enterprise Refit was the last mini I remember buying). Until this Christmas, that is. I decided to put a couple of ships in the ol' Christmas list (being only $15, they are easy for relatives to buy!), and dust off my stuff and no kidding play a game or two...and I had a blast with it! So, now I've been busily reading threads in this forum, trying to get caught up on what I missed. There are a few ships out there that I am definitely interested in...I got the Thunderchild and Hathaway for Christmas, so those are off the list. The Enterprise E is surprisingly hard to find, though I got one from an online retailer for $28, shipped. Going forward, I plan on mostly playing friendly games and not getting into the OP scene.

Here is my collection as it stands now:

Federation:
Enterprise-D (x2)
Excelsior
Reliant
Refit Enterprise
Hathaway
Thunderchild
Defiant (USS type)
Equinox
Voyager
Prometheus
Enterprise-E (on order)

Klingon:

Mhat-H'a (x2)
Negh-Var

Romulan
Khazara (x2)

Borg
Sphere 4270
Cube 138

Other
4th Div. Battleship
Bioship Alpha

Anyway, as far as future purchases go I plan on rounding out my Federation stuff and picking up some more Romulans and Klingon stuff. Here is what I am definitely planning on getting:

1. USS Phoenix (even if it has the wrong pod on top, I so love the Nebula class!)
2. Fighter Squadron 6
3. USS Pegasus
4. IKS G'roth
5. Valdore
6. Scimitar

Here are some things that I'm on the fence about:

1. TOS Enterprise (mainly because of the size of the mini)
2. Delta Flyer (never been a fan of the design)
3. USS Pasteur
4. Borg Queen's ship
5. Borg scout cube

I'm definitely planning on trying to play more of this game in 2016!

Still loving STAW, and playing in local events when I can.

I'm about the trade out Feds and Klingons for equivalent X-Wing, btu that's more so I can support X-Wing and refocus my STAW play. Keepings up with all factions just isn't in the budget. So this will let me concentrate on Dominion, Indies, and maybe Romulans.
I also have a hankering for the jigsaw fleet that Mirror Universe offers, but we'll see.

Right now, I'm trying to get one of each OP-Prize Xindi ships. And looking forward to the first Andorian vessel to pair with my mini-Gorn fleet. :-)

I'm liquidating a bunch, but they're all part of the deal right now.
If it doesn't go through, here's my list:

Enterprise A (Constitution)
Enterprise E (Sovereign)
Voyager
Reliant
Defiant
Exclesior
Sutherland
Yeager
Stargazer
Federation Fighters

I've got a decent Klingon Fleet, so I'm willing and able to venture out to wipe up the Federation Skum!

Awesome! I might take you up on that. If nothing else, we could fit in a quick game of Attack Wing before or after some DW.

I'm glad to see there are at least a couple of us around  ;D
I just got into STAW recently, totally loving it so far!

I'm trying my best to make Klingon work, but I'm fairly new and don't really know what I like yet - one thing is for sure though, Federation has just too many options  :P
Howabout you? anyone else in the area still playing?
I have been going up to Boulder to get in on some of the OP events

We're fairly active down here in the Springs with near-monthly events at Gamer's Haven and JJ's in Fountain. We tend towards faction-pure, or pure-by-ship, and more casual OPs.

From what I've seen, Klingons tend best for Cloak and Hammer tactics, and swarms. They have some very efficient multi-ship builds to raise firepower. But less options for defense or action efficiency.

I've been collecting mostly Feds, but a few Romulan, Klingon, and Borg ships as well. Haven't really played much, but I'm hoping to change that in 2016 ;).

I just noticed that The Wizard's Chest in Denver is doing an OP event next month if anyone is interested: http://www.wizkidseventsystem.com/event.php?EVENT_ID=149090
Much easier for me to get to since most of the gameplay seems to be centered in the Springs or Boulder, totally heading over to support those guys  :)
