Battlestar Galactica Deadlock
« on: September 02, 2017, 03:56:10 pm »
An interesting turn-based videogame in preview/beta about the first cylon war. I got surprised there is not a thread about this, so I decided to start one

Here is a video about the gameplay but there are many more in youtube. I have seen even images from the perspective of a viper

Cheers

First I've heard of this--thanks for posting about it! Looks VERY cool. Unfortunately I have a Mac, so I'll have to wait until the Xbox One version comes out. Have you played it? If so, thoughts?

I like that they're focusing on the First Cylon War. While the story of the Galactica and the Ragtag Fleet is compelling, I think it works better as a TV show than as a game. Setting the game during the war before all that occurred is a good idea.

Still really wish we could get an official miniatures game for this IP, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Nope,I donĀ“t have it. I just watched it in youtube. I liked the game because is all about managing battlestars, repairing different sections of the ship, setting it defensively/offensively etc.. and in the end you get a "film" by watching a replay of the game :)

Picked it up Friday and just getting into it but it is, so far, very cool with a very BSG feel to the game.

So basically you plan out your turn, assigning actions to each ship, then you watch a "cutscene" in which your ships act out your orders--correct? When does the enemy activate--are "they" planning their turn while you plan yours?

It's similtaneous turn-based combat, with each turn being about 10 seconds. But the big thing is that after the battle has finished, the AI director puts together a short film showing the full battle with highlighted points, and it's very much like the new TV series in feel - long-range zoom-in camera shots, over-the-shoulder shots with vipers, glorious explosions...

I saw reviews from both Total Biscuit and ACG and I immediately put the game on my steam Wishlist.

Oh ok, so if I'm targeting a Cylon ship for a missile strike during my planning phase, the AI is planning actions for that ship at the same time that may or may not include defending against my incoming missiles. Is that a correct example?

From what I've seen of it - absolutely correct.

I just picked this game up during the Steam Fall Sale! I'll have to give it a try. I might even do some YouTube videos on it :).

According to Slitherine's website, it's going to be available for console gamers (Xbox One and PS4) on 7 December. I just looked it up on the Xbox store, it's available for pre-order now. Looks pretty frakkin' cool--will probably grab it when it comes out!

First DLC adding two new ships per side is coming out soon as well.

Yeah, I think that's all dropping at the same time--the DLC and the console versions (PS4 and XB1).

$30 on the Xbox Live store...not too shabby!
