The Painting Year in Review--2017

Alright fellow naval wargamers, the end of 2017 is nigh upon us--geez, this year has flown by.

So--let's see what we were all able to paint this year! Between now and 31 December, post some pics here of all the naval wargaming stuff that successfully cleared your hobby bench in 2017. Airships, landships, spaceships, battleships, terrain, naval infantry, whatever you've painted that's naval wargaming-related, we want to see it! Tell us what your favorite model/squadron/etc was, and a little bit about what you hope to get done next year.

Nothing to win here but bragging rights and kudos, but I know we have a talented group of painters here at MBS...so let's see what you've got!

This is the only thing Naval related I got painted this year....



A Dystopian Wars Prussian Airship and some Steel Crown Vaklyrie Patrol Craft.  I actually use these for Aeronautica Imperialis. 

Not a lot of painting this year.

Can you share some pics of the finished models? Prussian airships look great--some of the coolest designs in the game, in my humble opinion. I'm not familiar with the Steel Crown Valkyrie patrol craft...what game are they used in?

Well, I'll get this party started, since I won't have a chance to do much more painting this year.

2017 was a slow year for me painting-wise. Everything else was moving at lightspeed (or so it seemed), which is maybe why I didn't get much painted.

Here's what I was able to finish this year:



Essentially, all the FSA ship pics I posted earlier in the year, plus a merchant ship for DW and a few Halo: Fleet Battles ships.



I really like these merchant ships. Got 7-8 more of them to paint still.



And here's the little bit I did for Halo: Fleet Battles. One Phoenix-class colony ship (arrived after the Fall of Spartan, thankfully), one Autumn-class heavy cruiser (sure wish I had a few more of these!), and a few of the Pelican tokens (wish I had a LOT more of these--great little models).



My favorite ship from this year is a toss-up between the FSA Liberty-class heavy battleship and the UNSC Phoenix-class colony ship. The Liberty is a beast of a ship--lots of armor. But the Phoenix is such a cool-looking design.

For 2018, I'm almost afraid to state any painting goals for fear of jinxing myself! I'll just go with this: I hope to finish everything I start, and I hope to finish all the half-painted ships I have laying around (about a quarter of my Chinese Federation fleet is half-painted).

I feel like I had a relatively productive 2017 when it came to painting!



I managed to finish:

-Reinforcements for my Prussians
-Reinforcements for my Terrans for FSA
-A UCM fleet for DFC
-A decent-sized Blazing Sun fleet
-A couple of terrain pieces

This doesn't include a full Team Yankee US army that I built and painted (that's not exaclty naval!).

For 2018, my naval painting goals are:

-Expand my Blazing Sun fleet
-Paint up my DW Italians
-Complete another fleet for DFC

Nice job Ruck. Yeah I did a little painting for Halo Dirt Fight that I didn’t include in my pics. I like that fort for DW (in front of the oil rig). Wish I’d been able to grab one of those. Is that island the one from Broken Egg Games?

Yep! That's it. It's intended to be a hill, but I think it works quite well as an island.

My year has ended up being surprisingly productive - only when looking back at the year did I actually realise how much I'd got painted:



(not pictured is my small amount of Firestorm Armada progress - escorts for Hawker Industries and the Terran Alliance).

Good looking painting this year from you guys! I was going to post my year in review but struggled with uploading and said “forget it”.
Only a few French ships and some PLC got paint in 2017 anyways, a lot of non-naval painting instead. Looking forward to some more great painting this year!

@Quickdraw no worries, you did a bang-up job on your Dirt Fight minis this year.

@Whyarecarrots, I actually meant to post on your other thread. Those are some BEAUTIFUL ships. I especially like the Prussians, although the flag on the Danish ships is really nice as well.

And yeah, Easy E, I’m also not able to see your posted pics. Not sure what the story is there.

Yep, can definitely see that picture. What are those small ships in front? They look like something from Firestorm Planetfall.

They are Valkrie Outriders from Steel Crown.  I think they are now carried by... someone else?  Maybe Onslaught miniatures?
