Spruance Leader from DVG
« on: June 28, 2021, 09:10:40 pm »
Just saw this on Kickstarter when I was getting another Battletech delay notification...  Spruance Leader is Dan Verssen Games' latest entry in the Hornet Leader / Phantom Leader series setting a solitaire player in charge of a task force in the North Atlantic during the Cold War.  The enemies cover air, surface, and underwater targets in the missions across the campaign, and it looks like the inclusion of subs really expands the detection phase compared to their earlier games.

My only other experience with a solitaire fleet scale game was Astra Titanus, which was abusively difficult, and after a scan of the draft rules they have put up on the Kickstarter, this seems much more approachable as each mission is scored against a goal instead of pass / fail like AT.
If my wife asks, I only spent half as much as I wanted to...

I saw this game too. It looks very interesting, and the subject matter is (of course) right up my alley.

The only think that is holding me back is the price; it's not that I don't think it will probably be worth it, it's that I've backed several pricey KS campagins in the last few months and I'm not sure my hobby budget can take another $100+ hit  :D

I was very tempted to back this game, but I already have several of the leader games that I don't manage to get played enough.

The theme is interesting and I would scratch the cold war itch.  Maybe after it is released and I see a few reviews, I'll decide that it will get more of my attention than the others that I've got.

That's ok, you can look at my impressions. I couldn't resist! I jumped in on the campaign at the last minute.

I got my copy this week, and posted an unboxing video on YT:

Looking forward to digging into the rules and playing a game!
