Got in a strategy game after Easter dinner last night. Ham, destruction, and exhaustion from another long weekend on the road...what a night.
Opponent was
VDAM LokeRoze in what was my 3rd Running the Gauntlet mission
in recent games. I challenged, as my FSA supplies desperately needed to be delivered to the campaign. Giving up the 5 Recon points, along with an additional 2 Strategy points. This pushed the points total for the game to 900. Not exactly breaking the bank, but why the heck not! Truthfully, I did this to fit the Saratoga into my list...which I realized after was still sitting in my condo 20 miles away. Five options for terrain were placed randomly, in what ended up being a near perfect circle around my deployment zone. Must say, this D10 random placement is actually quite fun. Back when we would use the "grid" placement system, the lay of the land if you will
, didn't look so hot. While planned terrain is not balanced, but can look stunning. The D10 method has proved a happy medium. Battle itself was rather quick. The ottomans came out strong collecting frigates, and damaging the Lees squadron. However, they weren't able to get enough hits when it mattered on the Battleship. Meanwhile my forces were able to clear out the ottoman cruisers and heavily damage the rest of the fleet. Allowing my Battleship to come close enough the board edge, and with no real threats nearby, to force submission. Finally a Running the Gauntlet Win!
FSA = 650 VP 12 Strategy 5 Recon
Ottoman = 350 VP 2 Strategy 3 Recon
With the clouds dissipating around the Americans forces, things have once again taken a turn for them. Meanwhile the Prussians seem charged and ready to blitz forward. The French have a hold on their new home, with rumors of heavy reinforcements joining their cause. Whilst the Italians prime for another dash into infamy. Great campaign so far, and curious to see who will claim The Control Point advantage!
