BSG Mod for Full Thrust

Looks interesting! I know that the idea of a BSG minis game has come up here before, bit I've never played the Full Thrust rules. Anyone thinking of getting this?

I didn't read the rule book, but that last picture on the MechWorld site--of the full battle--looked AWESOME.

Couple issues with this idea, though:

-those capital ships, at 1:4105 scale, are big and expensive.  I guess it's not coincidence that that is the same scale as the Moebius Models kits for the Galactica and Pegasus.  Those models are about $45 and $65 apiece, respectively.

-as far as I know, no one does styrene kits of the Cylon basestars.  There are resin kits available in that scale, but they are pretty expensive and not something you can just pick up at a hobby store (unlike the Galactica and Pegasus kits).

-it would be impossible to have Vipers, Raiders, and Raptors in a matching scale--they'd be way too small.  The smallest scale versions of those ships I've seen is the stuff that Ironwind Metals does, and they aren't licensed, so you can pretty much just buy those things at cons (like Historicon).  From the pics on the MechWorld site, I think that's what they were using.

In short--great idea, but very expensive and hard to get all the right pieces for the game.  Unless I'm missing something.

I agree, the pic of the battle is pretty sweet:



Using models that size for a tabletop fleet-scale game is nuts! I'm curious to see if you could scale it down more to use battlestar/base star models that are in the 6" range, akin to FSA. I know I've seen a few of those "unofficial" ones at cons and the like in that scale. I hear what you are saying about not having scale fighters; that is a common issue with fleet-scale space combat games.

You are quite right that it would be a challenge to get all the pieces-parts to put a game together, but then that is a traditional aspect of space naval gaming, it seems. Especially with Full Thrust, which as I understand it has always been a game where you use "generic" space ship models or else mod it to whatever franchise you favor. About the only fleet-level miniatures space game out there right now that is fully supported is Firestorm Armada!

Agreed, but it looks darn cool!  At that scale, the Galactica herself is about 15" long, if not longer, and the Pegasus is bigger still.

The "unofficial" version from cons is what I was talking about before.  There are a few sets of home-brewed rules out on the internet for those miniatures, or I guess you could write up your own.  My Zeus-class Warstar ( http://manbattlestations.com/forum/index.php?topic=180.0 ) is from that range, and it's about 5" long.  I've played a couple of those games at Historicon.

The only other space-based fleet game I know of (that's licensed!) is War Rocket ( http://warrocketgame.com ), although War Rocket is not as involved as Firestorm Armada.  Still, the retro sci-fi ships look pretty cool, reminiscent of some of the old TV shows.  My FLGS carries War Rocket, but no one seems to play it anymore--although some of the guys who work there said its a fun game and they'd be willing to run an introductory game for me.
