Storm Zone: Return of the Overseers
« on: December 14, 2014, 10:41:38 pm »
The Battle for Proteus Prime escalates as the Aquan Prime sends a fleet of their newest ships to intercept the Directorate forces assaulting the planet. So the newest two player starter set has been announced by Spartan for Firestorm Armada!

Quote
When the leaders of the Aquan Prime heard of the assault of Proteus Prime by Directorate forces they were gripped with fear. The ancient texts told of a great danger hidden in the planet, an ancient force that could destroy the entire galaxy.

In response the latest fleet of Aquan starships was sent to intercept and destroy the Directorate fleet orbiting the planet. An epic battle is taking place above the planet of Proteus Prime - so gather your forces Commanders it is time for war!

1 Anarchist Class Battleship
2 Turmoil Class R&D Cruisers
2 Annihilation Class Gunships
4 Liquidator Class Frigates
2 Large SRS Tokens
2 Small SRS Tokens

1 Oannes Class Heavy Carrier
2 Sulis Class Heavy Cruisers
2 Shiva Class Gunships
4 Chimaera Class Frigates
2 Large SRS Tokens
2 Small SRS Tokens

1 multi-part resin and acrylic Dimensional Gate
1 Firestorm Armada 2.0 Rulebook
3 Token & Template Sheets
2 Asteroid Sheets
2 Fast Play Sheets
2 Tactical Action Card Decks
24 Dice
1 Mission Booklet

Lots of new ships for both factions with the Aquans getting a new heavy carrier (takes a standard carrier space but sits in size between a standard carrier and a battleship/battlecarrier), gunship, and the new heavy cruiser which adds the ability to redirect friendly beam attacks. The Directorate get a brand new battleship type (it's...  ok, not my style really but ok), gunship again, and a new R&D cruiser featuring an experimental gravity weapon. Also a new terrain piece and lots of gribbly bits! This is looking like a lot of fun!

I didn't at first realize that it's coming with pretty much all new figs.  I'd be willing to go in with some if they want the directorate stuff.  I'd mainly want the Aquan figs and that nice stargate.

I might be starting an Aquan fleet now! That dimensional gate looks pretty awesome, too. I'm curious to see if the mission booklet includes any of the promised FA-Planetfall crossover material...

Those Directorate R&D cruisers are fugly.  Will need to see some real pix and/or in person.  All the rest look great.

So some more details on the new ships have been released.

The Oannes design brief:

Quote
A Bridge between a Carrier and true Battle Carrier, the Heavy Carrier is designed as a true alternative to a battleship in smaller engagements, but able to present a much greater threat with accompaniments

None of this will help dissuade me from starting a Directorate fleet! ;-)

Every time I read 'Anarchist', my mind keeps trying to interpret it as "Antichrist".  For a Directorate fleet, I think the latter is more appropriate.

Stephen you're not the only one! I actually suggested a different name just for that reason, but no one else thought it was an issue. ::)

Simply welcome the embrace of your Corporate Overlords, and such silly terms will fall away, as you labor for the greater good!

Spoiler: The Directorate used to be Sony Corp, until they were bought-out by North Korea...

Ok, I know where I've seen the Turmoil before.  In the Alien movies.  It has the same inner 2nd mouth/set of snappy teeth them xenomorphs do, all extended out.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I see it now! That is pretty funny. Presumably, it is just some sort of BFG, so it shouldn't be too hard to lop it off and replace it with something that looks nicer. Also, it might look a little better painted...I'll hold final judgment until I see the mini first-hand.

Can anyone explain the special MARS in this set? I found the stats, but there's a Gravity related MAR for Directorate,  and an Energy Nexus type MAR for the Aquans. No idea what they do, so I can't decide if I want the box or not...
