I've finished my first WW II ship in a LONG time! This is a 1:1800 scale Hiryu, from Shapeways:

I've finished my second Shapeways unit, a USS INDIANAPOLIS, design by Squit181, painted in Measure 22 :







I'm very happy with how it came out! This ship holds some special significance for me, both because of the story behind her tragic loss but also because I was born in Indianapolis .

Looks good Ruck. INDIANAPOLIS carried the A-bombs to Okinawa, right? And she was sunk on the way home?

More or less...she was delivering just the Uranium cores of the bombs. After she dropped them off, she was proceeding to the Philippines, not back to the US.

Looks good Ruck. I assume 1/1800 scale like the other ships you have painted up?

Have you thought about looking at a hobby store to get planes for the flight deck? I know some companies do plane models in different scales to add to carrier model kits. Not sure if anyone does WW2 1/1800 aircraft. They certainly would be small, but it would be cool to see them.

1/1800 scale planes would be hard to come by. That scale was pretty much invented as a naval war gaming scale by WotC when they made War at Sea, and they only made ships at that scale. The aircraft were all 1:900 for ease of production and durability during play. GHQ makes some 1:2400 scale planes for their models, and I have used them to make small deck parks on a couple of 1:2400 carriers. Talk about fidly!
